Seasons Greetings

As the Christmas season is now upon us our younger members will take a break from indoor training this week and will return in January when school will recommence in the week beginning on January 8th. 

Our senior team are currently in training for the upcoming All Ireland Semi final V Athenry on January 28th and have all ready played the County's Senior team in a challenge game on Sunday last and have arranged for another challenge game against the County's minor team on December 29th.

All in Lismore camogie club would like to wish all our members a very happy and peaceful Christmas and New Year.

Munster Title Number 5 For Lismore Girls

On Saturday last November 18th all roads lead to the Cork Camogie Grounds at Mahon when Lismore Senior Camogie Team were taking on Cork Rivals Newcestown in the refixed Munster Intermediate Final. The Lismore girls were going into this game as favourites as they were contesting their sixth Munster Final since 2010 having already won four titles. 

The game commenced and it was Aoife Hannon who opened the scoring in this game with a free on four minutes and a minute later Caithriona McGlone scored the Waterford clubs second point from play.

But Lismore’s lead was a short lived one as Newcestown came roaring back with points from Meabh O’Donovan and Colleen Twomey from a free on six and eight minutes and they took the lead a minute later when Therese McCarthy put the sliotar just over the reach of Tanya Morrissey.

But it was Lismore who was the dominant tea for the remainder of the opening half and hit back with a hat trick of points all from frees off the hurley of Aoife Hannon between the 10 and 18 minutes.

It was Newcestown's Collette Desmond tried for the games opening goal on 20 minutes but she saw her effort tipped round the post by Tanya Morrissey for a ’45 and from the placed ball Coleen Twomey shot wide. The same player shot for goal two minutes later but was once more denied as Lismore's corner back Sarah Coughlan put the sliotar out for another 45 and this time Coleen Twomey shot wide once more.

Caithriona McGlone edged Lismore further in front on 26 minutes with a point from play and two minutes later, the same player got inside the Newcestown defence from an inch perfect pass from Grainne Kenneally  and she made no mistake putting the sliotar past the Newcestown keeper Orla Dineen. This raised the spirits of the Lismore side as it put some daylight between the sides going in at half time with the score reading Lismore 1-6 Newcestown 0-4.

Newcestown in the second half put a lot of pressure on the Lismore defence. Very early in the half Suzanne Deasy dropped a long range free in around the Lismore goal but the Lismore defence were able to deal with it comfortably and bring the ball out of defence.

Shona Curran extended her sides lead with a point on 33 minutes. Two minutes later Colleen Twomey put a 45 wide, but made up for it 3 minutes later when she put over a free. On 40 minutes she again struck another free but was again off target.

Aoife Hannon edged Lismore further in front on 41 minutes with another free, her fifth of the game before Collette Desmond now on free taking duty put over her first placed ball at the end of the third quarter.

 

With 9 minutes to go Aoife Hannon again split the Newcestown posts, but it was followed by a period of continued Newcestown pressure,

Ciara O’Sullivan pointed with six minutes to go and three minutes later Collette Desmond again found the range with a placed ball.

Suzanne Deasy had an effort on the hour mark taken off the line by Shona Curran and a minute later the same Newcestown player shot wide from a placed ball.

Three minutes into stoppage time Aoife Hannon ensured that victory would be Lismore’s when she pointed from a free and while the Tipperary official found further time to add on, try as they might Newcestown were unable to breach the Lismore defence and even with the last play of the afternoon they were unable to get past Tanya Morrissey who made an excellent save.

Lismore wing back Marie Russell was presented with the Player of the Match award after the game. Also Tanya Morrissey and her six backs were outstanding on the day while Aoife Hannon’s free taking was impeccable under pressure on the day.

Lismore's team captain Nicola Morrissey was presented with the Trixy Toomey Cup from Munsters Chairperson John Foley and Nicola in her speech thanked her team mates along with the team management and backroom staff. She thanked the match officials and Cork camogie board for their field which was in great condition. It was on to celebrations when the team were greeted at Hornibrooks Garage where the local Firebrigade was on standby to escort the team in a large convoy of cars through the town. It was then on to Foleys on the Mall where proprietor Eugene Lyons sponsored the team with a lovely meal which was very well appreciated by the hungry players . Then it was on to team sponsor The Red House to continue the celebrations until long into the night .

The Club would like to thank Eugene Lyons for meal, Mike O Leary of the Red House for his continued support of the team and the many supporters who traveled in large numbers to support the girls on the day.

The girls will now play in the AIB All Ireland Intermediate Club Final which will take place on Sunday January 28th against the Galway Champions Athenry

Night at the Dogs

Waterford Ladies Football Association are holding a "Night at the Dogs" on Saturday night next November 25th in Kilcohan Park Waterford.

The aim of this fundraiser is to raise as much funds as possible in order to assist in the purchase of our own playing facilities. Fundraising has been underway for the past few years specifically for the purchase and development of a pitch to cater for Ladies Football in this county.

A limited number of tickets are available from the various ladies football club committees around the county and cost just €10 each or a family option ticket which costs €20 and admits 2 adults and 2 children.

The night promises to be a great occasion and the first race is off at 7:50.

Preparations For The Upcoming Munster Final is well Underway in Lismore

Saturday next November 11th all roads will head over the Knockmealdowns as the Lismore Senior Camogie team will take on Corks Newcestown in the 2017 Munster Intermediate Club final in Cahir GAA Grounds for a 2pm start..

Lismore Senior Team had a tough campaign heading into this final which will stand to them as they take on Corks Newcestown. In the County Championship the Lismore girls beat St. Anne’s and De La Salle and drew with Gaultier and Cappoquin thus earning them a place in the County Semi Final which was against De La Salle where they had a comprehensive win.

It was then on to the County Final on October 7th against last years County Champions Gaultier , this game was indeed a very tough affair in which the Lismore girls came out victorious on a score line of Lismore 2-10 Gaultier 0-11. 

Next up was the Munster semi-final which was against Tipperary’s Silvermines in Silvermines on October 27th. The girls once more strutted their stuff and overcame the Tipperary champions on a score line of Lismore 4-6 Silvermines 1-10.

This will be Lismore’s 6th Munster final since 2010 and have won 4 of the last five they have played in, so they are now going for their 5th victory in this competition. We urge all to come out in large numbers on Saturday to shout on our girls in Cahir.

An Interesting fact!

In 2005 Lismore’s U14 team took part in the u14 Feile na nGael competition in Cork and their host club at the time was Newcestown. Five of this years panel were part of this U14 team who reached the Feile final that year.

Guess the Score

As there was no one guessed the correct score for the semi final a draw was held with the names on all cards and the winner of €100 was Claire Byrne.

Cheque Presentation

Jim Russell presents a cheque for €681.37 to Lismore Camogie Chairperson Eilish McGlone and Senior Team Captain Nicola Morrissey from half the proceeds collected from "The Jim Russell memorial 45 card drive and raffle" held last week. This money is to help defray the costs for the upcoming AIB Munster Camogie Intermediate Club Final in Cahir on Saturday next. Included in pic are members of the Senior Camogie team and manager Brendan Landers.

Lismore overpower Silvermines in Munster Semi final

Lismore 4-06 Silvermines 1-10

Two goals in both halves of the game from Caithriona McGlone, Aoife Hannon and Sinead Bennett prove crucial in their victory over Tipperary Champions Silvermines.  It was an all round performance from a very experience Lismore side.

Lismore won the toss and opted to play with a strong breeze in the first half.  However it was Silvermines who opened the scoring with a point from play from full forward Ashling Carey.  Lismore goalkeeper Tanya Morrissey then pulled off a fantastic save on the third minute putting a certain goal out for a forty five. Silvermines Carey converted the forty five.  Lismore were trailing by two points. Lismore Shona Curran won a free and Dead ball ace Aoife Hannon had no trouble converting the free to register Lismore first point. From there on in Lismore picked up the pace and Hannon scored another point from a forty five. Midfielder Shona Curran thundered into the game and was very dominant in midfield winning every battle with her marker.  On the thirteenth minute Curran played in a long ball to Aoife Hannon who buried it to the back on the Silvermines net. Hannon was on fire and scored another point from a forty five.  Caitriona McGlone then registered her first goal for Lismore on the twentieth minute.  At this stage Lismore were seven points up and were dominant all over.  Carey and Mcglone exchanged points. Silvermines then won another free and converted it leaving the half time score 2-04 to 0-04

In the second half Silvermines started off the second half as they did in the first half scoring the first two points before Caitriona McGlone scored a fantastic point from play.  Nicola Morrissey won a free 65 yards out from goal and played the ball into Lismore forward line where half time substitution Sinead Bennett won the ball and buried it into the back of Silvermines net.  Lismore were eight points up and were well on top. Shauna Kiernan showed great composure at centre back while Sarah Coughlan and Shauna Prendergast gave tigerish displays. Silvermines converted two frees and battled hard but just couldn’t breakdown the Lismore defence.  Caitriona McGlone scored Lismore fourth goal putting Lismore nine points ahead.  Silvermines refused to give up putting the Lismore defence under great pressure.  Tanya Morrissey pulled off another fantastic save in the final minutes of the game before Silvermines scored a consolation goal leaving the final score Lismore 4-06 to Silvermines 1-10.

Best for Lismore were Tanya Morrissey, Shauna Prendergast, Sarah Coughlan, Shauna Kiernan, Shona Curran, Sinead Bennett, Caitriona McGlone and Aoife Hannon.

Lismore will play Newcestown (Cork Champions) in the Munster final on November 11^th in a cork venue.

McGlone Double helps Lismore Overcome Silvermines to Earn them a Place in Munster Final

Caithriona McGlone played a big part in Lismore victory over Silvermines on Sunday last scoring 2-03 out of the 4-06 final score in the Munster Semi-final.. Lismore will now play Newcestown Camogie team in the Munster Final on Saturday November 11th.

Throw in for last Sundays Semi Final was at 12 noon in the immaculate Silvermines GAA field. The game was a very intense affair and it was Silvermines who got on the scoresheet in the first minute with a point and another in the second from a 45. Aoife Hannon got Lismore a point on the 4th from a free. It took both teams a while to settle and it was on the 10th minute when Caithriona McGlone got loose and made a deft run towards the Silvermines goal but was closed down by the Silvermines backs, but Caithriona spotted Aoife Hannon to her right and hand passed the ball across and Aoife made no mistake and struck hard to the back of the Silvermines net. This settled the nerves of the Lismore girls and spurred them on. Aoife in the 19th minute scored a point from a 45. A minute later the speedy McGlone got loose once more and ran at the Silvermines backs and landed a whopper to the back of the Mines net .Score at this stage read Lismore 2-03 Silvermines 0-02. Silvermines tagged on two more points and Lismore one more to add to their tally for the remainder of the half . Half time score read Lismore 2-04 Silvermines 0-04..

The second half began with Silvermines coming out of the blocks scoring the 1st two points in the 1st three minutes. The speedy McGlone notched on a point later for Lismore. A minute later a ball that was launched in to the mouth of the Silvermines goal where a scuffle ensued and half time substitute Sinead Bennett pulled on the bobbling ball where it went flying to the back of the net. This did not upset the Silvermines girls and kept on fighting back and kept Lismore scoreless for the next 22 minutes. Caithriona McGlone stepped up to the mark again adding another point to her tally on the 58th minute. 2 minutes after this Aoife Hannon won a ball out on the wing and passed it to Emma Power who spotted Grainne Kenneally running down the middle and swiftly flicked it on to her who flicked it over Caithriona’s marker onto Caithriona’s hurley and once more Bang! to the back of the net. Again Silvermines didn't give up and scored a goal and a point in injury time, but was too little too late for them, ending the score line Lismore 4-06 Silvermines 1-10

The "Jim Russell" Memorial 45 card Drive

The Russell family would like to thank all those who supported our card game and raffle and all the numerous sponsors. Also a sincere thanks to Mary Fenton/Morrissey for running the 45 card game and Laura and Willie Roche for letting us sell the raffle tickets outside their premises during the day on Friday. Monies collected will be divided evenly between Crumlin Children’s Hospital and Lismore Camogie Club.

Ballymacarbry Crowned Munster B Ladies Football Champions

Ballymacarbry Senior ladies football team headed to University of Limerick on Sunday last in search of a Munster B title. The last won this title in 2015. Their opponents were Cahir from Tipperary who won their first county final this year. Cahir defeated the Kerry champions Southern Gaels on route to the final while Ballymacarbry had a comprehensive win over the Banner from Clare in their semi final. 

Cahir were first out of the block with a point after 40 seconds however this was to be the only time the led in the game. After 5 minutes Sinead Ryan blasted a goal to the back of the net after a pass from Linda Wall to leave the score 1-0 to 0-1 after 5 minutes.

Ballymac added two further points before the sharp shooter Sinead Ryan added another goal ten minutes into the game to leave the score 2-2 to 0-2 after ten minutes.
Another Ryan got on the score sheet when Michelle Ryan sent the ball crashing to the net after sixteen minutes which was followed by a great point from corner forward Brigita Valuntaite.

Cahir tagged on a few points in the closing quarter of the first half but further points from Michelle and Sinead Ryan and a point from Linda Wall in the first half left the side 3-10 to 0-5 pts at half time. 

Immediately after the break Sinead Ryan became the hat trick hero when she slotted the ball to the back of the Cahir net and five minutes later Aileen Wall putted the game out of Cahirs reach when she split the Cahir defence and raised the fifth green flag for the West Waterford side. 

Cahir fought back with a goal in the 42nd minute when they scored the rebound from a superb save from the Ballymac goalie Lauren Fitzpatrick, they followed this up with another three pointer on the 47th minute. This left the score 5-14 to 2-6.

Mid fielder Kelly Anne Hogan added another point to double her tally for the day with two points from play. Eibhlis Cooney Sinead Ryan added to the Ballymac score sheet before Ballymac introduced some of their up and coming underage stars. Alice Ryan scored 3 superb points from play, Ciara Ryan showed furious work rate while others introduced included Abby Wall, Muireann Boyce and Danielle Hallahan which will provide great experience for these young and talented young girls in the future. 

Treasa McGrath and Maeve Ryan were tenacious in defence with the Waterford trio of Michelle McGrath, Karen McGrath and Mairead Wall solidifying the defence. Laura Mulcahy showed great maturity by limiting Cahir's main threat Aisling Moloney.

The midfield duo of Louise Ryan and Kelly Ann Hogan combined youth and experience well to form a formidable partnership around the middle. Up front the Wall sister Aileen and Linda Wall combined well with Eibhlis Cooney to set up some great attacks. The full forward to trio of Michelle Ryan, Sinead Ryan and Brigita Valuntaite finished with a combined tally 4-18 with Sinead Ryan picking up Player of the Match with a personal tally of 3-9.

Louise Ryan accepted the Munster B Cup. Ballymacarbry now go on to the Munster A Final where they will face Mournabbey of Cork next weekend.

Lismore Set For Munster Intermediate Club Semi-Final

Lismore Senior Camogie Team will play in the Munster Intermediate Club Semi-Final on Sunday next October 29th against Tipperary's Intermediate County Champions Silvermines. Throw-in for this game is set for 12 noon in Silvermines GAA Club. We urge all to come out and support the girls as they take part in the Munster Championship.

The Jim Russell Memorial "45 Card Drive"

This year the Jim Russell Memorial "45 Card Drive" is in aid of Lismore Camogie Club and Crumlin Childrens Hospital Dublin .

Entry fee of €10 p.p
Also in house raffle on the night with some Hampers and other numerous prizes to be won.
Please support our camogie girls in their quest for Munster Honours and Crumlin Childrens Hospital as many children in our town were / are being treated for serious sicknesses and illnesses.

This game will take place on this Friday night at 8.30 pm sharp in The Red House Lismore.

Gailltir Reign Supreme

Congratulations to Gailltir who beat De la Salle in the Minor A county final in WIT Carrignore on Sunday last.  This was a repeat of last years county final where De la Salle won on that occasion. De la Salle were going for three in a row but were stopped by a very strong Gailltir team.  It was a great contest and one which the score does not reflect. There were outstanding displays on both sides notably for Gailltir Clodagh Carroll, Kate Lynch, Annie Fitzgerald, Emily Mahony and Aoife Fitzgerald and for De la Salle Abbie Flynn, Niamh Murphy, Colette Hogan, Lucy Hogan and Taylor Healy all stood out.  This is Gailltir first Minor A title since 2006. Player of the match was awarded to Annie Fitzgerald.

All Star Nomination and Soaring Star Nomination

Congratulations to Beth Carton and Kaeisha Tobin on been nominated for All Star and Soaring Star.  Beth Carton received Player of the league and was top scorer for Waterford in their senior Championship Campaign.  Kaeisha Tobin received her nomination on her performances in the Junior Championship. In the Wicklow game Kaeisha scored four goals. All stars awards will take place in City West of Saturday 4^th of November.

No Joy In County Final

Our girls were seeking a three in a row in this age group. This game was played in the WIT Sports Campus Carriganore on Sunday morning 15th October. Played in showery conditions our girls battled bravely throughout from first to final whistle and really put it up to our opponents. Hard luck girls ye showed tremendous attitude, spirit and determination all year round. Heads up and enjoy a well deserved break. We will all look forward to doing it all over again next year.

Congrats to our Senior Club & County player Beth Carton on her recent  nomination for a Camogie All Star which will be announced next month. Well deserved Beth keep up the good work.

Congrats to our club's Senior Hurlers on reaching the County Final after there fine semi final win v Passage. Best of luck in the County Final to the players and management team. Let's get out and support the team on their big day.

Lismore Senior Girls Back on Track after a Thrilling Encounter with Gaultier in Co. Final

The WIT Arena at Carriganore, Waterford was the venue for this year’s Senior County Final on Saturday last October 8th. A Thrilling game of Camogie was to be expected on the day with both weather conditions and an immaculate venue perfect for such a game and indeed this was the case as both teams served up a great game of Camogie.

Lismore were first out of the blocks with an Aoife Hannon point from a free on the 5th minute followed by a point from Gaultiers Áine Lyng from a free on the 7th. Aoife once again split the posts for Lismore on the 9th and 2 minutes later a point from Gaultier. Both sides played with some great intensity with some great skill being displayed by both teams. Both defending and attacking by both sides kept the scoring tit for tat when one side scored the reply by the other soon after. By the 25th minute it was Gaultier who held the lead by the minimum 6 points to 5 points. On the 29th minute Gaultier were once more on the attack with the Lismore backs under severe pressure and were beaten and a super save pulled off by the brave Tanya Morrissey in goal cleared out to her half back line and was  driven out to be caught by Aoife Hannon who passed to Ruth Geoghegan who passed to Caithriona McGlone who had passed her marker and banged it to the back of the Gaultier net. The whistle was blown for half time leaving the score Lismore 1-5 Gaultier 0-7.

It was Lismore who got on the scoring sheet on the 39th minute from Aoife Hannon, but it was 6 minutes later before Gaultiers Annie Fitzgerald got them on the scoring sheet. Aoife Hannon who was on fine form from placed balls scored on the 45th minute followed by an Áine Lyng free on the 46th. Still the hooking and blocking especially by Sarah Coughlan and Marie Russell kept the Gaultier forwards at bay and found it very hard for them to get a score. Shona Curran scored from mid field on the 51st minute and it was six minutes later before Aine Lyng got her sides third point of the half and three minutes into injury time Aine got their 4th point of the half. Due to many stoppages there was allot of injury time to be played and on the 65th minute Caithriona McGlone once more got passed her marker and struck another whopper passed the Gaultier goalkeeper. But this was still not the end of the Lismore scoring when the back on form Aoife Hannon scored the final point of the game on the 67th minute leaving the score line Lismore 2-10 Gaultier 0-11.

The Senior cup was presented to Lismore Team captain Nicola Morrissey by County Chairperson Ita Murphy. Ita in her speech congratulated both teams for the great game of Camogie and said it was great to see such support. Nicola in her speech thanked all the team panel and backroom team for all the hard work they had put in over the year and all this paid off. She said it was lovely to have the U8s playing at half time and that they are our future stars.

Lismore go to represent the County in the Munster Intermediate Championship which will be played on Saturday 29th of October against the Tipperary Champions, either Cashel or Silvermines as the Tipperary County Final will be played on Saturday next.

McGlone blasts Lismore to county glory

Caithriona McGlone netted at the end of either half as Lismore regained the county senior camogie title at a jam-packed WIT Arena on Saturday afternoon. After losing last year’s decider, this experienced group of players went to the well again and outfought their youthful opponents.

An action-packed final was in the balance until the renowned goal poacher for club and county stung the roof of the cobwebs a minute into added time. Gailltir closed within a point of the leaders on three occasions during the second half but Brendan Landers’ team dug deep over seven minutes of stoppages. The Lismore boss was also given a red card by referee Liz Dempsey before the hour elapsed.

Dead ball ace Aoife Hannon starred alongside McGlone in the full forward line. Her absence was keenly felt last year. On this occasion, Hannon appeared on the team sheet and stroked over seven points (five frees, a 45 and one from play). Midfielder Shona Curran thundered into the game for the second half and her whole-hearted efforts at both ends inspired the troops. Shauna Kiernan showed composure at centre back while Marie Russell gave a tigerish display. Captain Nicola Morrissey put in an unselfish stint on the wing and constantly showed out in front.

Gailltir’s brightest prospect Annie Fitzgerald illuminated the first half and marked her maiden senior final appearance with six points. She was busy without possession as well and harried the Lismore backs. A late knock lessened her impact in the closing stages. Emma Roche also exerted a considerable influence from number six. Patricia Jackman missed most of the campaign but was sprung from the line after 40 minutes. She couldn’t turn it around from full forward.

The sides were level five times across the first half before McGlone finally escaped the close attentions of the Gailltir defence to fire a shot across Ciara Jackman (1-5 to 0-7).

The free takers dominated the early stages of this final. Aoife Hannon twice traded points with Áine Lyng and Annie Fitzgerald. Against the breeze, Lismore piled on the pressure but couldn’t make headway against a dogged full back unit. With their inside forwards hemmed in, Nicola Morrissey and Grainne Kenneally nailed vital points further afield.

Fitzgerald sparkled throughout the opening thirty minutes and relished the tight exchanges. Emma Roche drilled two balls in her direction and the Déise dual star skated through the Lismore defence to nab two points. The first whizzed over Tanya Morrissey's crossbar. She also converted three frees. On the half hour mark, Hannon and Ruth Geoghegan linked up to release McGlone. Her unstoppable drive to the far corner proved a game changer.

Roche needed attention at the start of the second half but when play resumed McGlone set up Hannon for a point. After another injury delay to patch up Áine Lyng, Fitzgerald dispatched a free into the dressing room goal. On 40 minutes, Gailltir management sent on Patricia Jackman and Clodagh Carroll in a bid to keep hold of their crown. A chop on Sharon Williams allowed Hannon step forward again but Lyng responded immediately. Still only a point to separate them.

A foul on Caithriona McGlone led to another Hannon conversion before Shona Curran drove over an inspirational point on 51 minutes (1-9 to 0-9). A poorly struck free from Annie Fitzgerald veered wide. Lyng assumed dead ball duties after Emer Walsh was carried off and chalked up her third.

In a heated finale, Landers was ordered off the sideline. Gailltir put on four subs and Carroll made it a one-point game yet again. With the next attack, McGlone snuck in behind the cover and finished high and handsomely. Game over. Hannon’s seventh point deep into injury time clinched a fourth county championship in five years and a sixth since 2010.

Tramore Win Junior Final

After falling at the last hurdle in the last year final,  Tramore finally got their hands on junior silverware following a hard fought battle with Clonea at Carriganore. Second half goals by Sally Kelly and  Kate Marie Hearne proved significant in this contest. Player of the hour corner forward Sally Kelly worked her socks off.  Lively pair Abbie Dunphy and Clara Griffin also stood out on the winning side.

Clonea opted  to play with the breeze in the first half.  However it was Tramore who registered the first five points without reply.  Aoife Fleming then scored a goal from a 45metre free.  There some great passages of play with both defences on top. Aoife Fleming who was in flying form registered another point on the twentieth minute and twenty fifth minute.  Sally Kelly and Niamh Walsh scored two points from play just before the half time whistle leaving the half time score Clonea 1-02 Tramore 0-07.

In the second half both teams battled really hard.  Two evenly matched sides saw great passages of play. Clonea Aoife Fleming was on fire and scored another goal from a long range free.  Shortly after Orla Flynn scored a fantastic point from play.  Clonea were two points up at this stage.  Tramore were awarded a penalty on the twenty fifth minute and Emma Norris pulled off a fantastic save.  It looked at this stage that the game would end in a draw.  However Tramore had other plans and retaliated with three unanswered points from Sally Kelly, Saoirse English and Kate Marie Hearne.  In the final minutes Kate Marie Hearne scored a great goal to put the game out of sight for Clonea.  Outstanding Keely Barry Corbett tried really hard to bring her side back into with several bursts winning several balls in the midfield area.  Despite the best efforts of Clonea they failed to register any scores in the final five minutes. Best for Tramore on the day were Abbie Dunphy, Saoirse O’Brien, Clara Griffin, Niamh Walsh and Sally Kelly.  Best for Clonea were Aoife Fleming and Keeley Corbett Barry. Tramore will now play intermediate grade in 2018.  Joint Captains Majella Pollard and Niamh Walsh  collected the trophy for the worthy victors.

All Star Nomination and Soaring Star Nomination

Congratulations to Beth Carton and Kaiesha Tobin on been nominated for All Star and Soaring Star.  Beth Carton received Player of the league and was top scorer for Waterford in their senior Championship Campaign.  Kaiesha Tobin received her nomination on her performances in the Junior Championship. In the Wicklow game Kaiesha scored four goals.

Comprehensive win for Lismore girls in County Semi Final

Lismore 4-12  De La Salle 0-07

On Saturday evening last September 23rd all roads lead to Kill GAA Grounds as the Lismore Senior team were eagerly awaiting the County Semi-Final V De La Salle. Having drawn with Cappoquin in the last round robin of the championship, the girls were to play in the semi-final to qualify them for the County Final V Gaultier set for the weekend of October 7th/8th.

Throw in for this game was set for 5.30pm and Lismore played with a very strong blustery wind in the first half. It was De La Salles Beth Carton opened the scoring in the first three minutes with a point.  It was on the 6th minute when the speedy Caithriona McGlone ran through the De La Salle defense and landed the sliotar to the back of the net.  Two minutes later Beth Carton found herself one on one with Goalkeeper Tanya Morrissey and a certain goal was deflected over the bar by the brave Lismore girl (A save that Waterfords Steven O Keeffe would be proud of). At this stage one point separated the sides but this save by Tanya seemed to be the turning point of the game for the Lismore girls and drove them on for the remaining 24 minutes of the half, with some great play form the Lismore backs feeding some well placed balls into their forward line thus setting up some very fine scores. Lismore held De La Salle scoreless to Lismores 2-6 for these 20 minutes ending the half on a score line of Lismore 3-7 De La Salle 0-2.

The second half began with the weather to turn very nasty with very heavy wind and rain making play very difficult for both teams.As in the first half it was De La Salles Beth Carton opened the scoring and indeed had three points scored before Aoife Hannon scoring Lismores first point on the 40th minute from a free. Playing conditions at this stage were very tough but both sides played with great determination. Even tho' the Lismore girls were playing against the wind they seemed to be handling the situation very well and held De La Salle on a score line of 0-5  to 1-5 in this half leaving the full time score Lismore 4-12 De La Salle 0-07.

The Lismore girls are now qualified for the Senior County Final V Gaultier, which is set for the weekend of October7th/8th at a time and venue to be confirmed. Pleease watch this space on next weeks papers and the Lismore Camogie Facebook page for updates.

The Lismore minor team will play in the minor B semi-final V St. Annes on Sunday next October 1st at 11.30 in Dunhill. We wish these girls and their mentors the very best of luck in this.
