After a long time at the helm of Camogie the Lismore Senior Camogie girls bowed out in last week’s semi-final against a strong and determined De La Salle Camogie team. Hard luck to all involved and a huge thanks for all the hard work and effort put in at training throughout the year. Thanks to Eric O Sullivan and Geraldine Barry for all their commitment to the team and thanks to the girls for their commitment.

Thanks to Joe Pollard and Eddie Nugent and Lismore GAA for the use of the field and facilities for training and matches throughout the year. Thanks to Pat Ryan and Ballysaggart GAA for the use of their field for challenge matches and Championship matches. Thanks to Ballyduff GAA for the use of their field and lights. Thanks to local man Sean Cummins who was the teams Physio for the semi final.

CAMOGIE BLITZ IN BRIAN BORUS CAMOGIE CLUB
Lismore U6, U8, U9 and U10 Camogie teams travelled to Brian Borus Camogie club Saturday Oct 6th for their end of season blitz. All teams played Brian Borus, St Fanahan’s and Ballybacon on the day. The girls played some great Camogie and enjoyed what was a well organised blitz. Thanks to Brian Borus for the kind invitation and to all the parents who travelled on the day. Well done to all.

Hard luck but well done to our 8 club girls who after lining out in our Senior Championship semi final made the journey straight away after our camogie game finished to New Inn Co. Tipperary to line out for Erins Own LGFA ladies Junior squad in their Munster Club semi final v Kilrush of Clare. The girls performed heroically throughout their second game with Kilrush equalising in the last few moments of normal time to force extra time. Kilrush ran out winners at the end of extra time. Maybe once again at National Level both associations might try come together to look at player welfare where girls are being asked to play 2 high profile games in such a short space of time on the same day.

Gailltír        2:13 Modeligo 2:04

An early morning throw in at Walsh Park saw Gailltír and Modeligo go head to head in the U16A County Final with these two young talented teams serve up an entertaining game with an abundance of skill and physicality on show.

The opening quarter saw Gailltír create the greater amount of chances but with 12 minutes gone Modeligo led by 0:02 to 0:01 through frees from Máiréad O’ Brien and Gailltír’s score coming through Aoife Fitzgerald again from a placed ball.

The opening score from play had the green flag raised with Alannah O Sullivan finishing expertly on 15 minutes.  The momentum swung with Gailltír further with Alisha Flynn grabbing a second goal within as many minutes to put them in control. Further points through Aoife Fitzgerald, Alannah O Sullivan and Clodagh Curhams left the sides going in at half time on a score line of 2:07 to 0:03.

After the restart both teams came out with an added level of intensity and physicality with every ball being fought for.  Modeligo got the first score of the second half through a free from Máiréad O’ Brien with Alannah O’ Sullivan producing a quick response with a point of her own once more from play.

Modeligo started to build momentum and put pressure on Gailltír with them winning another free, this time Máiréad O Brien raising a green flag from 25 yards out.  Within minutes of this, with Modeligo beginning to run at the Gailltír defence another free was awarded and again this produced a goal through the stick of Máiréad O’ Brien.  This reduced the Gailltír lead to four points on a score of 2:08 to 2:04 with 18 minutes remaining.

Gailltír found another gear however and tagged on another five points without reply to see them get over the line over a resilient Modeligo team.  In what was a great game of camogie played in good spirit the final score finished on 2:13 to 2:04.
