Waterford All Ireland under 16 champions

In what could only be described as a heart stopping game of football, Waterford ladies under 16 team brilliantly hung on to eke out a one point victory over a gallant Roscommon team. Playing in ideal conditions, in Mc Donagh Park in Nenagh on Wednesday last the Deise girls showed pride, determination and most of all a major will to win in what proved to be an epic game of football.

From the outset the Waterford girls were up for this match and had gone into a lead after only 56 seconds when Old Parish player Hannah Power kicked the opening point. From the kickout a Roscommon attack was broken up in the Waterford full back line and six passes later a ball from Maeve Ryan ended up with full forward Kaiesha Tobin who made no mistake in despatching the ball past the Roscommon keeper Rebecca Cox. In the 4th minute the other member of the full forward line Abbey Dunphy popped over a point to leave the team five points ahead 1-2 to no score. One minute later captain Chloe Fennell got in on the scoring act with a point of her own before Kaiesha Tobin put seven between the teams with 10 minutes on the clock. It took Roscommon all of 15 minutes to open their account when centre forward Sinead Farrell pointed a free. The Roscommon cause certainly looked forlorn when a sweeping movement started by full back Emma Gildea, ended up with a foul on Katie Duggan Sullivan and a free from Kaiesha Tobin was flicked to the net by Hannah Power to leave Waterford comfortably in front by nine points 2-4 to 0-1. In the 24th minute Chloe Fennell extended the Waterford lead with a point and a brilliant save from Roscommon goalie from a rocket of a shot by Kaiesha Tobin which she deflected over the bar for a point left Waterford up by eleven points approaching half time.

Then followed a period of sustained pressure, from Roscommon which left Waterford pocked on their heels. Rosie Landers made a brilliant save from the corner forward Niamh Fleming putting the ball out for a 45metre free. From the resultant free the ball made its way to Roscommon’s Sarah Scally who put the ball in the Deise net. The pressure was mounting on the defence Becky Hogan and Edwina Curran made two vital interceptions at this stage, before Sarah Scally rifled the ball to the net in stoppage time for her second goal. Abbie Dalton then won a vital kick out and with Mary Kate Curran and Hannah Power (St Pat’s) worked the ball in to the free running Abbey Dunphy who steadied Waterford nerves with the final score of the first half a point to leave the half time score Waterford 2-7 Roscommon 2-1.

The throw in at the start of the second half was won by Shauna Fitzgerald and the Gaultier girl passed to her club mate Kate Lynch who quickly played the ball into Katie Duggan Sullivan to score the opening score of the second half after 52 seconds. Roscommon began to find space and excellent work by their midfielder Heather Payne yielded a free which Aoife Galvin slotted over on six minutes. Galvin repeated the act two minutes later to narrow the gap to five points. Roscommon were now in full flow and the Roscommon supporters were in full voice at this stage sensing one of the greatest come backs ever. Rosie Landers made another great save and another Roscommon effort hit the crossbar with Waterford full back Emma Gildea clearing it off the line. Roscommon substitute Áine Mullins added another point to the tally and the once lead of eleven points was suddenly down to four. With twenty minutes still on the clock, Waterford replaced Shauna Fitzgerald with Keeley Corbett Barry in an effort to stem the Blue and Gold tide. The game was held up for about five minutes when the Roscommon corner back in bravely repelling a Waterford attack was injured and required medical treatment.

On the resumption a ball deep into the Waterford defence was scrambled to the net by Niamh Shanagher to leave the bare minimum between the teams with 9 minutes to go. Waterford then introduced Annie Fitzgerald in an effort to steady the Deise ship and it had a desired effect when Annie deftly played the ball to the other substitute Keeley Corbett Barry who was fouled and Kaiesha Tobin pointed the resulting free. Sinead Farrell cancelled this out with a Roscommon point with four minutes to go. Roscommon had a chance to level the match from the kick out but a free from a very difficult angle just drifted wide.

The tension was palpable, the excitement was fever pitch, Abbey Dalton won a kickout and started another attack, and the ball was played into Kaiesha Tobin who was fouled in the square, penalty! Kaiesha stepped up; her expertly struck shot sent the goalie the wrong way but rebounded off the butt of the post and gave Roscommon a lifeline. The Waterford defence held firm and a long relieving clearance from Hannah Power ended up with a Waterford attack going wide with time up. The Roscommon keeper took the kick out and the sound of James Flood’s shrill blast on the whistle was the sweetest sound to Deise ears as they became champions by the smallest of margins. There was joy unconfined when captain Chloe Fennell was presented with the cup and Kaiesha Tobin received player of the match. In her speech Chloe was fulsome in her praise of a wonderful Roscommon team and also of the work and effort put in by the management team of Johnny Troy, Mags Foley, Fionnula Flynn and Ger Curran and first aider Majella Hogan for all their hard work during the year and in making sure that everything was 100% in the preparations for the final. This was a marvellous win for the girls and it was in no small way due to the strength in depth of the panel who give great commitment to the cause.

The Waterford panel was as follows: Rosie Landers, Becky Hogan, Emma Gildea, Edwina Curran, Abbie Dalton, Mary Kate Curran, Maeve Ryan, Hannah Power(St Pat’s), Shauna Fitzgerald, Chloe Fennell, Katie Duggan Sullivan, Kate Lynch, Hannah Power(Old Parish),Kaiesha Tobin, Abbey Dunphy, Shiona O Regan, Meadhbh Curran (Stradbally),Lauren Galvin, Hallanah White, Annie Fitzgerald, Keeley Corbett Barry, Lauren Dunford, Kate Cliffe, Clodagh Curran, Jess Fitzgerald, Shauna Ryan, Maura Gallagher, Leah Maher, Meadhbh  Curran (Old Parish), Clíona Murphy and Lia Nic Craith.

The team and management would like to thank the supporters, who travelled to the matches, the county board for their support and to the clubs who provided pitches for training. A special thank you must go to Paddy Sullivan and John Mitchell’s club for the generous provision of their ground and especially to Tom Dee in having the pitch always in tip top condition.

Déise Ladies Seek All-Ireland Glory

All Ireland Final Preview

Waterford v Roscommon-Nenagh, Wednesday 29th July 7:00

All roads from the Deise lead to Nenagh on Wednesday next when our under 16 ladies football team take on the Connacht champions Roscommon in what promises to be a pulsating match with All Ireland honours at stake. Waterford following their Munster championship final victory, defeated Kildare in an epic semi final by four points with the result in doubt until the very last minutes. Roscommon have qualified for this stage of the competition by easily defeating Leitrim on the score-line 3-10 to 1-4 in the Connacht final and then disposing of a very fancied Cavan team by nine points in the All Ireland semi final.

The Deise selection comprises of girls from 13 different clubs as far apart as Ballyduff in the West to Gaultier in the East and all places in between and have come together under the watchful eyes of the management team of Johnny Troy, Margaret Foley, Fionnula Flynn and Ger Curran to gel into a formidable group of players with a very strong work ethic.

Waterford started their campaign with a comfortable win over Limerick, followed by a hard fought two point win over Clare and a 4-12 to 4-7 win over Tipperary in the Munster final. Then followed that wonderful semi final win over Kildare, in a game that had everything with two well matched teams determined to give everything to the cause.

Rosie Landers is an excellent goalie and has a very hard working and determined set of backs in front of her. Becky Hogan, Emma Gildea and Edwina Curran are very dependable in the full line and are very tight marking making life as difficult as they can for the opposing forwards. The half back line of Abbie Dalton, Mary Kate Curran and Maeve Ryan are an excellent platform for setting up attacks with their driving runs and long clearances out of defence. In the mid-field area Hannah Power, Shauna Fitzgerald, captain Chloe Fennell and Hannah de Paor are strong and good in their distribution of the ball into the forwards and are also well capable of popping up with a score or two when needed.

The forward line on their day are a handful for any defence with Katie Duggan Sullivan, Kate Lynch, Kaiesha Tobin, Abi Dunphy, Annie Fitzgerald, Keeley Corbett Barry and others  all chomping at the bit to tear the defences apart. A team is only as good as its panel of players and all the players on the bench are well capable of making an impact when they are introduced.

Roscommon will be no push-over and have many stars themselves. Rebecca Cox is a very capable goalie and Shannon Dowd, Amy Curley ,Roisin Wynne and Emer McNally are part of a very strong back line. Mikaela Mc Hugh and Heather Payne are good in the middle of the field and the Waterford defence will have to play to the peak of their potential to keep forwards of the calibre of Aoife Gavin, Niamh Shanagher, Niamh Brady and Sinead Farrell quiet.

It promises to be an enthralling game of football and if Waterford play to their very best they should have enough experience and craft to take the All Ireland title back to the Deise.

Throw-in, in Nenagh is at 7:00 with James Flood in charge of proceedings.

Waterford under 16 ladies pip Kildare in a thriller

Waterford under 16 ladies footballers continue their journey in quest for All Ireland honours and have qualified for an All Ireland final tilt with Connacht champions Roscommon on Wednesday 29th at 7:00 at a venue yet to be confirmed. This final spot was claimed by virtue of a narrow win over Leinster champions Kildare in Freshford Co. Kilkenny in a super game of football which ebbed and flowed and was in doubt until the very last minute.

Playing with the aid of a slight breeze in the first half Waterford were rocked on their heels after only 55 seconds when mid-fielder Shauna Fitzgerald was injured and had to be replaced with Keeley Corbett Barry coming in, in her place. Both teams were very nervous but gradually settled into the match and it was Kildare who opened the scoring with a point from mid-fielder Kate Hannon in the 4th minute. Dungarvan’s Katie Duggan Sullivan equalised one minute later and three points from Kaiesha Tobin and a goal from Katie Duggan Sullivan in the 16th minute left the Deise comfortably ahead, Waterford 1-4 to Kildare’s single point. Kildare quickly got into their rhythm and a point from Nicole Dooley in the 18th minute was quickly followed up with wonderful points by Kate Hannon, Áine Nash and Nanci Murphy narrowed the gap before Kaiesha Tobin pointed a free for a much needed Deise score to leave Waterford ahead by a goal at half time Waterford 1-5 Kildare 0-5.

Waterford opened the second half brightly when Tramore’s Abi Dunphy popped over a good point in the 2nd minute but Kildare hit back with vengeance with a point from Kayleigh Humphries and a well worked goal from mid-fielder Áine Nash to level matters in the 5th minute. The Lilywhites took the lead in the 8th minute when Nanci Murphy scored a point. Kaiesha Tobin and Nanci Murphy traded points as did Keeley Corbett Barry and Nanci Murphy to leave Kildare with the minimum advantage with 9 minutes to go. Kaiesha Tobin pointed a free in the 22nd minute and set the game up for a grand stand finish, all square with 8 minutes left on the clock. The game ebbed and flowed with the over-worked Waterford defence performing heroics to keep the Kildare girls at bay. A quick break out of defence led to a free in for Waterford which Kaiesha Tobin duly put over the bar with 4 minutes to go to put Waterford back in front. This proved to be a lead that the team would not surrender, heroic work all over the field, coupled with no small measure of luck when Kildare hit the post and crossbar ensured that the Deise held firm and three more unanswered points courtesy of Kaiesha Tobin, Keeley Corbett Barry and Annie Fitzgerald in what seemed to the supporters a never ending injury time ensured that the Deise had broken Kildare hearts and qualified for the All Ireland final.

This was a great game of football which on another night could have produced a totally different result. The commitment of both teams all through was exceptional. Manager Johnny Troy had his charges well prepared and the fighting spirit of the team made sure that nobody gave up. It was a great win for the Waterford team but another big challenge awaits them in the form of Roscommon who were very impressive winners of the Connacht championship and even more impressive winners in their semi final against a fancied Cavan team by nine points.

Senior Championship Lismore  1-10  St. Annes 3 -04

Things were going well for the Lismore girls in the first half of the game with the score reading Lismore 1-03 St. Annes 0-02. Things were still going well for them five minutes into the second half until the young Sharon Williams fell down with a knee injury which disrupted the game for ten minutes while she was being treated and subsequently ending up in A and E. This upset the Lismore girls and two fast goals from St. Annes were scored before the Lismore girls settled back into the game. Seven in a Row for Waterford Intermediate Ladies

Seven in a Row for Waterford Intermediate Ladies

Waterford Ladies football team made it seven Munster Intermediate titles in a row when they saw off a dogged Clare challenge by four points in the wind-swept Mallow GAA complex on Saturday last. Playing into a strong wind in the first half Waterford got off to an excellent start when Maria Delahunty got the first score of the game after 50 seconds with a well taken free. Delahunty doubled the Waterford lead when she repeated the action a minute later. Clare opened their account in the 4th minute when corner forward Grainne Nolan got a good point from 30 metres. Indeed Nolan could have given Clare the lead immediately afterwards but her shot for goal narrowly fizzled wide. Róisín Howley levelled matters with her first score of the day, a point in the 6th minute, before Sinead Ryan gave the Deise a lead in the 10th with a free. Hannah Landers stretched Waterford’s lead to three points with two well taken efforts in the 13th and 15th minutes respectively. Grainne Nolan got her second point for Clare on 16 minutes before Ailish Considine levelled matters with two free in the 18th and 20th minutes. Mary Foley put Waterford back in front in the 21st minute when she was on hand to take a pass from team captain Linda Wall and fire it over the bar. Maria Delahunty was on hand to strike a sweet point in the 26th minute but Clare’s Ailish Considine was on hand with two points of her own just before the break to leave it all-square at half time Clare 0-7 Waterford 0-7.

Waterford started the second half with intent and Maria Delahunty had the opening score from a free in the second minute. In the 4th minute Aileen Wall started an attack out around midfield and was on hand to apply the finishing touches with a well taken point. Sinead Ryan tacked on a point in the 5th minute and Maria Delahunty stretched the lead to four points with a free on nine minutes. Sinead Ryan tapped over her third point in the 13th minute to leave Waterford well in control and leading by five on the score-line Waterford 0-12 Clare 0-5. The Deise girls were rocked on their heels in the 15th minute when a rocket from Roisin Howley hit the back of the Waterford net to narrow the margin to two points. Waterford responded in style to this set back, Grainne Kenneally was on the end of a brilliant through ball from Sinead Ryan and the Ballyduff forward made no mistake despite the best efforts of Emma O Driscoll.

In the 21st minute the game took yet another twist when Clare were awarded a penalty. The spot kick by Roisin Howley was well saved by the Waterford custodian but the Clare forward was first to react to the ball and made no mistake at the second time of asking. Maria Delahunty settled the nerves with a pointed free in the 23rd minute and Sinead Ryan tacked on the insurance point after a pin-point pass from Aoife Murray. Clare still kept pressing an only for a marvellous interception by Megan Dunford kept the Clare forwards from registering their third goal. Referee Jason Creed blew the final whistle and there were great scenes of joy when Michael Ryan Munster PRO presented the Enda Mc Donnell Cup to fellow Ballymacarbry club member and Waterford captain, Linda Wall. Linda’s day was rounded off in style when she also picked up the award for Player of the final.

Waterford now progress to the All Ireland quarter final on August 15th when they play against either: Tipperary, Roscommon or Sligo.

Waterford lined out as follows Katie Hannon, Megan Dunford, Karen Mc Grath, Linda Wall (Capt.),Emma Murray, Elaine Power, Michelle Mc Grath, Louise Ryan, Mairead Wall, Hannah Landers(0-2), Maria Delahunty(0-5), Aileen Wall(0-1), Grainne Kenneally(1-0), Sinead Ryan(0-5), and Mary Foley(0-1).

Under 16 face KIldare in All Ireland semi final

Our under 16 team make the trek to Freshford Co. Kilkenny on Wednesday night (July 15th ) to take on Leinster champions Kildare in what promises to be a thrilling game of football. Waterford by virtue of wins earlier in the season over Limerick and Clare qualified for a Munster final against near neighbours Tipperary. In that Munster final Waterford narrowly came out on top by five points. The team under the management of Johnny Troy, Ger Curran, Margaret Foley and Fionnuala Flynn have prepared well for the game and are ready for the Kildare challenge. It will be a tough encounter as Kildare were very impressive in their Leinster campaign with a comprehensive win over Laois in the final. Our girls play an exciting brand of football, are well organised at the back and have forwards who are well able to take a score. It will be close but if the Waterford girls play to their potential, captain Chloe Fennell will be leading her team into an All Ireland final against either Roscommon or Cavan. Throw in, in Freshford is at 7:00 with Jonathan Murphy in charge of proceedings.

Waterford Ladies Minor team took on a very powerful Tipperary team in the Munster B final in Glanworth on Saturday last and despite a brave effort well beaten in the end on a score line of Tipperary 6-9 Waterford 1-9. The old adage that goals win matches was certainly true in this instance as in the first half Tipperary punished Waterford mistakes with goals and while each team had six scores each in the first half the crucial difference was that four of the Tipperary scores were goals. In the early stages Roisin Howard and Orla O Dwyer raised green flags for the Tipp girls but Waterford slowly got into the game with points from Lauren Mc Gregor (2),Katie Murray(2)Aoife Murray and Kate Hahessey but Tipp pounced with two killer goals just before half time courtesy of Orla O Dwyer and Caoimhe Condon to leave the Tipp girls in front at half time on a 4-2 to 0-6 score line.

Waterford started the second half brightly wit a point from Lauren Mc Gregor but this was quickly replied to by a point from Aoibhe O’Shea. The game was over as a contest in the 6th minute of the second half when Niamh Treacy got Tipp’s fifth goal and Caoimhe Condon helped herself to another one in the 18th minute. Waterford never gave up fighting and they were rewarded with an Emma Murray goal., followed by points from Lauren Mc Gregor and Liz Devine but it was all to no avail as Tipperary went into overdrive and finished with a barrage of points from Orla O Dwyer, Aoibhe O’Shea, Megan Shanahan and two sublime efforts from Aisling Moloney. A deserved win for Tipp who now go forward to the All Ireland series. Commiserations to the Deise squad who played with heart and commitment but it was not to be their day.

The Waterford panel was as follows: Rioghnach Hyland, Kate McGrath, Caitriona O’Brien, Caragh McCarthy, Katie Hayes, Caoimhe McGrath, Megan Dunford, Emma Murray, Rebecca Casey, Chloe Fennell, Ciara Hurley, Kate Hahessey, Lauren McGregor, Aoife Murray, Katie Murray, Lucy O’Shea, Grace Heffernan, Carrie O’Keeffe, Geraldine Power, Katie Fowler, Paula Cliffe, Liz Devine, Lauren Guiry and Hannah Power.

Intermediate Ladies hope to lower the Banner in Munster Final

Waterford Intermediate ladies put their Munster crown on the line on Saturday next July 11th when they take on Clare in an intriguing Munster final which will be played in Mallow with a 4:00 throw-in. Success in this final would give the Deise girls an unprecedented seventh title in a row and would be a major step on the road to All Ireland success in September. The two teams met a fortnight ago in Fraher Field in the dress rehearsal and Waterford came out on top on a 2-12 to 0-11 score-line.

Saturday’s game will be a different affair however as there was nothing except pride at stake in the last encounter. Both teams will show a number of personnel and positional changes from the teams that lined out in Fraher Field. Ailish Considine and Eimear Hillery will be back for Clare and a number of Waterford minors who were rested will see action in the Intermediate final.

It promises to be an exciting game as both teams possess top quality players who are well capable of producing the magic when needed. Waterford forwards especially Sinead Ryan, Hannah Landers and Maria Delahunty are in a rich vein of scoring at the moment and the Clare defence will have their hands full trying to deal with the Deise threat. The Waterford defence looks strong with players of the calibre of Megan Dunford, Karen McGrath, Michelle McGrath, and Elaine Power always ready to close down the scoring strength that Ailish Considine, Eimear Hillery and Grainne Nolan possess. Both teams have excellent goalkeepers in Emma O’Driscoll for the Banner and Ballyduff’s Katie Hannon for the Deise and neither will be found wanting on the day. It will be a close run thing but Waterford should possess too much fire power for the Clare girls and Linda Wall the captain ably aided by her sisters Mairead and Aileen and the other members of the Deise squad should have the Enda Mc Donnell cup coming back to Waterford on Saturday next.

Throw in, in Mallow is at 4:00 on Saturday July 11th.

Who is Waterford's Woman Sports Star for June.

The months are flying bye this year.

We are already in July so its time for someone to be picked out as the unofficial Waterford Sports Woman of the Month.

At the end of May and in early June when I was looking at some of the events coming up for the month ahead, I was thinking to myself to pick a winner for June could be a little easier than for the previous five months as there appeared to be less happening.

How wrong I was.

While the amount of sport that took place last month might have been a little down on previous months due to the Junior and Leaving Cert exams nonetheless there were still some outstanding performances.

Athletics, Soccer, Camogie and Ladies Football are the sports in for a mention this month.

I have no doubt there was much more sports happening in June, but for some reason, they did not get much media attention for them to be picked up on.

As many womens sports do not get the coverage they deserve its hard them to pick up on them and for them to get a mention here and elsewhere.

We cannot blame the local papers for this. Neither can we blame local radio. If they were not informed of events then they can report what is happening.

The importance of every club and board involved in women’s sports appointing an active PRO cannot be cannot be called for enough.

If a person is involved in a none team sport and they don’t like to talk up their own achievements, then a parent, sibling, partner or coach can do it for them and let everyone know what is happening.

If you are involved in women’s sports and want some more coverage, contact me (keanethomas@eircom.net) and I will upload the details on this site, where unlike in the papers, or on the radio there is no restriction on the amounts of words that can be used because of space available or on radio where time available might be limited. And most of all its free to have the information uploaded.

So who is the person that impressed most in June.

Kelly Proper competed at a meet in Geneva in Switzerland. The Ferrybank A.C. athlete competed in the 200m event and won in a time of 23.26 seconds.

The World Championships take place in Beijing later this year and next year the Olympics take place at Rio in Brazil. The Ferrybank athlete no doubt will want to compete in both but first will have to achieve the qualifying time of 23.20 seconds, so Kelly is not far off that mark.

The Munster under 14 to 19 Athletic Championships took place recently in Waterford at the RSC. For Waterford athletes there was plenty of medals won at the championships. I could name many of them here but am going to refrain from doing so for fear of omitting one or two.

Dungarvan United this past month won the Under 16 Girls Cup beating Tramore in the final at Ferrybank on penalties.

Throughout the season the Old Boro young ladies had some excellent players in their squad including the likes of Katie Duggan-Sullivan, Emma Gildea, Aisling Baumann, Kaeisha Tobin, Atlanta Flynn-Raher, Emily O’Mahony and Chloe Fennell the scorer of the winning penalty in the cup final.

In Camogie De La Salle travelled north to take part in Feile na nGael recently and reached the Division two semi finals.

Gaultier competed in a Division One Regional Féile at Thurles where they reached and won the final beating Kilkenny side Thomastown.

This was a remarkable achievement as it follows on from the Division two finals won in 2013 and 2014 and some of the players involved recently would have been involved in all three years. Hopefully more is to come on what the Barony girls achieved soon.

In Féile Péil Gaultier and Ballysaggart represented the county recently.

Ballysaggart reached the Division five semi finals and the young ladies from the Barony reached the division three final but lost out on the day. Playing extra time in the semi final earlier in the day while not an excuse would not have been a help to them in trying to achieve a unique Féile Camogie and Ladies Football double.

All of the above would have been worthy winners this month, but alas its not to be for them this month.

So who is the winner this month?

Well here is a clue. The winner this month is a Lady Footballer, the second time since January that the winner is from the sport.

Aileen Wall, a previous winner is in with a shout again this month. She was outstanding for Ballymacarbry as they won the Munster Senior 7s competition at Mallow recently beating Kilmihil from Clare in the final scoring FOUR goals.

Katie Hannon also gets a mention. The Ballyduff Upper Club member and goalkeeper with the Waterford intermediate ladies team has had some impressive performances with Waterford of late.

The full back line of Nora Dunphy, Michelle McGrath and Linda Wall all were very impressive against Clare recently in the Munster Championship. The latter two were also impressive in the win over Tipperary a week earlier.

Karen McGrath is also very impressive of late playing in the middle of the field for Waterford. Caoimhe McGrath impressed a lot for Waterford in their win over Clare recently. Maria Delahunty has also impressed a lot this year and has kicked some great scores. Hannah Landers is also impressing of late as is Mary Foley who seems to have found a new lease of life since moving to the forwards this year.

Again all would be worthy winners, but you guessed it. All have missed out this month.

So who is the winner?

Well it was very hard to look past Sinead Ryan.

Against Tipperary in the Munster Intermediate Championship, Sinead was outstanding and scored 3-6. A week later she put 0-4 against Clare and could have registered more if Waterford had to win the game to secure a Munster Final spot.

Waterford down the years have had some good players. Áine Wall was one of the best. Sinead has the potential to be as good if not better.

Waterford next week will attempt to win a seventh Munster Intermediate Final in a row. An adult All-Ireland has not been won since 2000.

In between Waterford have gone close to winning an All-Ireland but on the day always lacked that little something.

A forward that has an eye for the posts like Sinead could be that ingredient. She is in fine form of late, hopefully she will keep her form up until the end of September and that a first adult All-Ireland Final in 15 years will be recorded with Sinead playing an important roll.
