Niamh
Briggs is set to miss next months Women’s Rugby World Cup.
The
Abbeyside woman was named in the Irish Panel last week as captain but news
broke today that the experienced international who also missed this year’s Six
Nations Campaign with a hamstring Injury.
However
the Full back has picked up an Achilles injury in training which has ruled her
out of the competition.
In
her place Louise Glavin has been called up.
Irish
Head Coach Tom Tierney in a statement released today said “Both the players and management are really
disappointed for Niamh as everyone has seen the incredible work and effort
she’s put in over the last number of months in an attempt to get herself right
for this tournament”.
The Irish Management team are
set to choose a new captain for the World Cup campaign in the coming days.
The Women’s Rugby World Cup
will take place in Dublin and Belfast from August 9 to 26.
