Another County Title for Modeligo Camogie Club

Our U13 Camogie squad travelled to Kill GAA Grounds on Sunday morning, October 11th to face Gaultier in the "A" County Final.

This game was due to have been played two weeks previously but was cancelled due to heavy rain that morning, but this time around, conditions were ideal for this final.
The game itself was a very close battle between two very evenly matched sides & don't be fooled into thinking that the low score line meant that this game wasn't entertaining. It was in fact end to end stuff with both teams giving it their all.

The early exchanges saw Gaultier lay siege to the Modeligo goal but some absolutely solid defending from Modeligo held out all of this pressure.

As the game went on, our girls gradually started to get the upper hand & the accuracy of Mairéad O'Brien from frees saw Modeligo lead by 6 points going into the last few minutes.

A Gaultier goal made it a very nervous end to the game, but as they piled pressure on, the Modeligo defence held out each attack.

Mairéad fired over another free to open the lead to 4 points but again, Gaultier came forward to earn a close range free. The well struck shot was driven just over the crossbar. Leading up to these final moments, a fine save from Chloe Power, along with some staunch defending from Ellen O'Byrne; Anna Hickey; Emma Hickey (Kilbrien); & in particular, Lauren Flynn, all led the way to victory & when the girls cleared one last attack, there were scenes of unbelievable excitement - & a bit of relief - at the final whistle.

After the game, joint captains Lauren Flynn & Chloe Power accepted the trophy on behalf of all involved.

The achievement of these girls to win the U12 "B" title in 2015 & now to go on & win the U13 "A" title this year is just outstanding & great credit is due to each one of them for their efforts as they have written another chapter in our clubs history. It also cannot go without mentioning the huge amount of work put in by their coaches Tyler & Katie & we congratulate them on their success with this brilliant group of girls.
