Waterford Ladies qualify for League Final in emphatic style

Waterford ladies footballers kept their hopes for league glory very much alive with an excellent win over a largely disappointing Leitrim team in the semi-final of the LIDL Division 3 league. Played in excellent conditions, in McCann Park, Portarlington Co Laois, Waterford blitzed the Connacht side from the start with a powerful display of possession football. Points from Maria Delahunty who punished Leitrim at every opportunity with her accurate free taking and goals from Katie Murray, Michelle Ryan and Sinead Ryan left the Déise girls very much in the driving seat at half time on the score-line Waterford 3-8 Leitrim 0-5.

The expected onslaught from the Leitrim girls after half time did not materialise as Waterford were clinical in their finishing. Sinead Ryan added to her goal tally with another in the second half, coupled with a well taken goal from Ballyduff’s Gráinne Kenneally and a brace from substitute Ciara Hurley  along with points from Aileen Wall and Róisín Tobin meant that Waterford ran out easy winners on the final score-line Waterford 7-15 Leitrim 0-6.

This result sets Waterford up for a final appearance against near neighbours and old rivals Tipperary. This game has the makings of a thriller as both teams have produced wonderful performances in the league to date. In the first round of the league Waterford eked out a narrow win over the Premier girls with a one point win on the score line Waterford 0-18 Tipperary 2-11. Both teams have been unbeaten since then with Tipperary being very impressive in coming from behinds to defeat a strong Wexford team to qualify for the final. The LIDL division 3 final takes place on Saturday 30^th April at 3:45 with the venue to be finalised.

WLPA Hero of the month

Congratulations to Maria Delahunty on her selection as Women’s Ladies Player Association Hero of the Month for the month of March based on her outstanding performances in the league during the month.

 

Under 16 ladies qualify for Munster final.

Waterford’s under 16 ladies team qualified for a Munster B final tilt with Tipperary as a result of their win over Limerick on Saturday last. In a must-win situation following from their narrow one point defeat to Tipperary on St Patrick’s Day, the Waterford girls played some excellent football to record a great win on the score-line Waterford 8-14 Limerick 4-1. Well done to manager Johnny Troy and all concerned.

 

Féile success for Gaultier and Ballysaggart

Congratulations to Gaultier and Ballysaggart who are Waterford ladies football representatives in Féile Peil na nÓg to be held in Kerry, Limerick and North Cork in June. Gaultier will be in Division 3, based in West Limerick in a group which includes Old Mill, Donegal and Mungret/St Paul’s. Ballysaggart will fly the flag for the Déise in Division 5 and will be based in Kerry in a group which includes Kerin O’Rahilly’s, Galway and Ballyduff/Beale. Best of luck to both clubs competing in this prestigious competition.

Waterford overcome Roscommon in final league game

Waterford completed their LIDL Division 3 campaign with a hard -earned win over Roscommon team. Played in very windy conditions on a very heavy pitch at Padraig Pearses GAA club, Waterford used their advantage of the elements in the first half to lead at the break by ten points on a score-line of 0-12 to Roscommon’s 0-2. Waterford’s scorers in the first half being Liz Devine 0-3, Michelle Ryan 0-3, Sinead Ryan 0-2 Caoimhe Mc Grath 0-1 and Emma Murray 0-1.

Roscommon aided by a strong wind in the second half cut the deficit but two goals from the Deise girls one from Liz Devine and the other from team captain Sinéad Ryan settled the game as a contest to leave the Déise girls winners on a final score of Waterford 2-12 Roscommon 0-8. This win ensures a 100% record in the league with seven wins from seven games and sets up an intriguing semi final clash with Leitrim next weekend.

The teams last met in February in Ardmore when the Déise girls recorded a thirteen point win over their Connacht rivals who admittedly were very understrength. Leitrim since then have been very impressive scoring thirteen goals and 43 points in their last four matches. Waterford should have enough fire power to qualify for a third successive league final but will need to keep a close eye on the Leitrim forwards especially Áine Tighe, Michelle Guckian and Carla Le Guen.

 

Deise Day at Punchestown Saturday 30th April 2016

The Punchestown Irish National Hunt Festival is one of the highlights of the Irish sporting and social calendar. The 5 day racing festival takes place from Tuesday 26th to Saturday 30th April 2016. Lismore Pharmaceutical Company "QM Specials" are the new sponsors of Lismore’s U14 Camogie Team.

 Peter McNally who is manager of the company presented a set of Jerseys to members of the Lismore U14 camogie team along with Club Chairperson Mary Russell , Club joint Treasurer Tricia O'Keeffe and team mentor Amelda Landers at a presentation at their factory in Mayfield Lismore on Friday last April 8th. Lismore Camogie Club are delighted with QM Specials  generosity as the club are in preparation for their upcoming U14 County Championship and the All Ireland U14 Feile Finals in June.

 

Fixtures and Results

Lismore’s U16 were unfortunately beaten by a stronger Modeligo team in the first round of the U16 B Championship held in the GAA field on Tuesday night last April 5th. The girls are due to play their second round V Clonea Power on Tuesday April 19th.

Lismore’s U14 team who were due to play St. Annes in their first round of the U14 A Championship has been deferred to a later date.

Feile Disco

The Juvenile Disco which was held in Lismore Community Centre in conjunction with Lismore Juvenile GAA on Friday last April 8th was a great success. Thanks to all who attended and to all who helped out on the night. 

 

Feile Update

Lismore Camogie club was chosen to host a meeting for West Waterford Camogie Clubs on Thursday night April 14th with Croke Park’s development Officer Mary O’Connor in the GAA Club House at 7 pm. This meeting is an information night for all clubs hosting Feile.

 

Presentation Night

The next event for Lismore camogie club is the Medal Presentation night which is due to take place in Lismore House Hotel on Sunday May 1st. Medals will be presented to the Senior team who captured the 2015 League, the 2015 Summer League and the 2015 Senior Championship along with the 2015 U14 team who won the Feile Plate competition. The presentation of medals will commence at 9pm on the night. A disco with DJ Glen Curtin for the adult members of the club and supporters will commence at 11 pm. Admission €10 with bar extension.

Table Quiz a great Success

On Friday night last April 1st the club hosted a table Quiz in the Red House which was a great success. There were fifteen tables on the night, most were the loyal supporters of our senior camogie team and more who were parents of our younger players.

Winners on the night were members of the Lismore GAA Club; Dan Geoghegan, Joe Pollard, Christy Brien and Robbie O'Sullivan. Thanks to them for handing back their winning money towards the club funds.

Second place went to Quiz gurus; Pat Raferty, Eddie Pollard and Mr. Boyd.

Third place went to our younger members of the Senior panel; Ellen Curran, Sharon Williams, Karen Kelleher and Alice Russell.

Huge thanks to Mike O Leary the Senior teams sponsor who provided his premises for the event.

Thanks also to all who donated the spot prizes for the raffle and the committee members who were in attendance to give a helping hand to ensure that everything went smoothly.

A thankyou to all who handed in money for the raffle who were unable to attend.

Feile Juvenile Disco

Friday night April 8th will be the second fundraising event for the upcoming All Ireland Feile Na nGael event in June which is a Juvenile Disco in conjunction with Lismore Juvenile GAA Club. This disco with DJ Liam O'Gorman and  is for U16's and will be fully supervised, Admission is €10 with doors open at 8pm. Strictly no alcohol.

Waterford Senior Ladies overcome Down

Waterford ladies continued their unbeaten run in the LIDL National football Division 3 when they overcame a dogged determined Down team. Languishing at the foot of the table Waterford’s centre forward Ciara Hurley opened the scoring with a free in the 1^st minute but Down put it up to the Waterford girls from the start and very impressive centre forward Kate Mc Kay opened their account in the 6^th minute with a good point. Both centre forwards traded points before Mc Kay put an unstoppable shot past Waterford goalie Katie Hannon in the 23^rd minute to leave the northern girls three points to the good.Ciara Hurley got a point back for the Déise girls to narrow the gap in the 24^th minute before Nicole Catney stretched the Down lead with a point in the 30^th minute before Kate Mc Kay brought her total in the first half to 1-3 with a point just before referee Jason Mullins blew the half time whistle with Down ahead on the score-line Down 1-4 Waterford 0-3.

Waterford opened brightly in the second half, a point from Róisín Tobin in the first minute followed by one from Michelle Ryan in the 6^th minute left two between the sides before Maria Delahunty struck for a goal in the 8^th minute to put Waterford ahead for the first time. Aisling Mullaney kicked a good point to extend the Waterford lead a minute later but Down came back with two points of their own from Mairead Kavanagh and Kate Mc Kay to keep the Waterford lead down. Katie Murray pointed for Waterford in the 14^th minute keep Waterford noses in front but Down never gave up and points in the 17^th minute from Nicole Catney and one in the 19^th minute from Kate Mc Kay in the 19^th minute left the teams all square at 1-8 apiece to ensure a tense last ten minutes for the Waterford girls. In the last ten minutes the experience of the Waterford girls shone through with points from Katie Murray, Caoimhe Mc Grath, Michelle Ryan(2) and Linda Wall ensured that Waterford did enough to preserve their 100% record in the league and qualify for the semi-finals with a game to spare. Next up for the Deise girls is a trip to Roscommon next weekend.

  

Minors easily defeat Clare

On Monday last Waterford minors easily overcame the challenge of Clare in the first round of the Munster championship. On top in all departments Waterford set about their task with vigour and led at half-time on the score-line 2-9 to 1-0.In the second half Waterford kept up the pressure and ran out easy winners in the end on a score of Waterford 8-16 Clare 2-0. Waterford’s next assignment is against Limerick.

 

Under 16’s get Munster campaign back on track.

Following their one point defeat by Tipperary on St Patrick’s Day, the Waterford under 16 ladies team got their campaign to reach a Munster final back on track with a good win against Clare on Saturday last. Putting in a much improved performance, Waterford took control from the start to establish a commanding lead at half time on the score-line 1-11 to 0-2 and eventually won by eleven points on the final score-line 2-15 to 2-5. Next up for the Waterford girls is a winner takes all tie with Limerick with the winners advancing to meet Tipperary in the Munster final.

 

Under 14’s unlucky

Waterford’s under 14 team narrowly missed out on qualifying for the Munster B final. In the crucial Round robin game against Limerick, the two teams played out a thrilling draw on the score-line Waterford 5-5 Limerick 4-8. This left both teams level on three league points each but by virtue of having a better scoring difference Limerick qualified for a Munster B final against Tipperary. Waterford now play Clare in a Munster C final.
